WHO IS THIS SCHOLARSHIP FOR?

Because we understand that professional coaching is a luxury not everyone can afford, we created this scholarship to make the program accessible to two individuals who may not have the resources to participate. We are grateful that Petzl and other sponsors have stepped up to not only give people this opportunity, but also supply them with many of the tools needed to succeed. In choosing the recipients we will be taking into account your written responses, as well as giving consideration toward under-representation and financial need.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Next Session Begins January 6th, 2020

Registration opens November 29th, 2019

Built by Power Company Climbing coach Kris Hampton and professional climber Dru Mack, Red River Pump Prep is an 8 week online group training program to help provide you with the skills needed to succeed in the Red River Gorge. For only $25 per week and appropriate for all levels from 5.10 to 5.13+, during the plan you’ll receive week by week workouts complete with videos from Kris and Dru, as well as access to both in a group chat room for everyone on the program. Limited to 40 participants.

Both Kris and Dru have climbed 5.14 in the Red, with Dru going on to climb most of the hard routes in the area. More important, between the two of them they’ve climbed nearly every 5.11 through 5.14 in the region - so if you want specific beta for your dream project, it’s likely that you’ll find it here. Having climbed in the Red for more than 20 years, Kris has trained hundreds of climbers to successful RRG seasons, and Dru regularly coaches both local and visiting climbers to successful sends.

How does it work?

Once registration opens, and you’ve chosen and purchased the program (we have two versions - with and without route climbing included), you’ll immediately be sent a setup email for the mobile app and be loaded into the system with Dru Mack as your coach*. You’ll also be added to the Group Chat where Dru and Kris are already waiting, and you’ll be joined by the other plan participants. You’ll have access to several videos and workouts to explore while waiting for the program to begin on January 6th, 2020. There will be 8 weeks of training, targeting several energy systems and focused on Red River style endurance, followed by a week to ask any final questions and chat tactics with Kris and Dru.

To complete the program effectively, you’ll need access to bouldering (as well as routes if you choose that version), a hangboard, and weights that you can add to your hangs if needed (water bottles can work…).

About Dru

Dru Mack grew up climbing in the backwoods of Kentucky, the Red River Gorge became his home and eventually stomping ground. Dru’s infectious psyche is what connects him with everyone at the crag, that motivation also lead him to sending some of the hardest routes in the Red like Southern Smoke (8c+ or 5.14c) and Pure Imagination (8c+ or 5.14c.) Climbing has taken Dru to amazing places around the world, like Spain, France and South Africa. He hopes to continue using climbing as a vehicle to send hard routes, experience different cultures and see beautiful destinations around the globe.

About Kris

Kris Hampton started climbing in the Red in 1997, first as a diehard traddie and later reborn as a sport climber. A former gymnastics coach, at the ripe old age of 40 he climbed his first 5.14a, Transworld Depravity. He owns and runs Power Company Climbing and is the host of the popular Power Company Podcast - which led him to his current addiction of in depth face to face conversations with experts. More recently, at 44, Kris climbed his first V11 in Hueco Tanks and is steadily chasing the goal of becoming one of only a few 40+ year olds to do their first V12.

While he no longer climbs regularly in the Red River Gorge, he’ll always consider it home.

Listen to Kris and Dru discuss the finer points of endurance climbing.
