RED RIVER GORGE 5.12 is a 7 week training plan written for climbers looking to break into or solidify their performance in the 5.12 grade range, specifically at the Red River Gorge. This program is designed to train the skills, strengths, and tactics needed to climb at the 5.12 level in the Red River Gorge.
You will need access to bouldering and a hangboard, with the ability to add weight to your hangs. Access to roped climbing (and a patient belayer) optional.
During this training plan, you'll go through 2 distinct phases separated by a Deload week:
3 weeks of Strength & Endurance training, focused on building area-specific skills.
1 Deload week, which is a low volume week designed to allow for some recovery and adaptation.
3 weeks of Power & Power Endurance training, tapering toward the end of the program in preparation for performance.
The program generally expects you are able to fit in 2-4 training sessions a week, 1-3 hours per session (which can also include some outdoor climbing) but is flexible enough to be adapted to fit tight schedules.
